Mahalia's New 2019 single 'Grateful'

Mahalia is an extremely talented singer/songwriter from Birmingham and as she showcases her latest single she has once again proved why she deserves the recognition that she doesn't get as a vocalist.

The slow and smooth song is a very simple production, with a soothing Rhodes electric piano carrying the song along with a combination of digital sub bass and, at times, a live bassist. Occasionally there is some support from the acoustic guitar which becomes one of the main instruments as we enter the chorus.

Vocally Mahalia is extremely talented managing to carry the verses with minimal background vocals and harmonies. The emotions evoked are done so by her voice alone. A single, simple vocal track to match the simple backing track in this track allows space for the listeners to digest the story she tells us in her lyrics and allows all the emotions that have risen to settle before we go again.

Overall a lovely listen, Mahalia is a hidden gem, truly remarkable.
