2019 has seen a lot of music released......too much, so, with a lot of picking and choosing, we have curated our top 10 songs of the year for you with some added commentary on particular tracks. Take a look.
10. Stefflon Don - Don Walk
Number ten on our list goes to Stefflon Don's May single 'Don Walk'.
2018 was a big year for Stefflon Don. Not only did her Dancehall-pop cross over singles rack up millions of streams, she even managed to make the XXL Freshman list along with the likes of Lil Pump, Smokepurpp and YBN Nahmir.
Having accomplished so much in 2018, fans went into 2019 with high expectations for Stefflon Don.
She featured on the Wiley single 'Boasty' which was very much the UK summer anthem this year. However not only did she feature on it she performed it at Glastonbury and Wireless with Idris Elba, and at Radio 1's big weekend with Sean Paul!!!
Off the back of that 'Boasty' hype though came her May single release 'Don Walk'. A dancehall track which grabs that infamous TLC 'No Scrubs' guitar sample flips it and takes it to that next level.
Her delivery on 'Don Walk' is impeccable and it was released perfectly for the summer!! 'Don Walk' is in at Number Ten!!!
9. Slowthai - Nothing Great About Britain
8. Aitch - Taste
7. IAMDDB - Urban Jazz
'Urban Jazz' is in at Number Seven. This 2019 single released by Manchester singer IAMDDB is the quintessential trap fusion track.
IAMDDB is truly a gem. Her musicality and ability to fuse Soul, Jazz, Trap and Grime is next to none however this track really brings the Jazz element of her music to the forefront .
For a long time, since IAMDDB emerged on the UK music scene in 2014, listeners felt that IAMDDB was limited in terms of the type of music she could produce with each track sounding like the last. A sparse trap beat with singing. But 'Urban Jazz' proved many wrong including myself.

'Urban Jazz', stylistically, draws on a lot of 60's avant-garde Jazz piano scales. Of course, it wouldn't be IAMDDB if there wasn't a clean 808 bass kick here too. Pleasantly though, the 808 in 'Urban Jazz' isn't as saturated and distorted as the 808's in some of the artists other songs. It is well rounded and allows the Piano to remain the main focus of the track. In fact, the 808 bass kick only interjects once every 8 bars, the track is mostly carried by a muted bass guitar, this is what keeps the song Jazz as oppose to Trap.
Urban Jazz is vocally reminiscent of music from the likes of Erykah Badu and Jill Scott. With simple melodies that hit home and no boastful riffs marring the instrumentation.
Overall a sensational listen with very tasteful production from Drae Da Skimask
6. Tyler the Creator - Earfquake
5. Frank Ocean - DHL
4. Solange - Stay Flo
3.Wiley - Boasty (remix) ft. Stefflon Don, Sean Paul & Idris Elba
What can't we say about 'Boasty' !!!! This single by Wiley really did dominate playlists during the lead up to summer and was performed at every summer festival Stefflon Don was headlining after it's release.
It was, unsurprisingly, heard by myself multiple times on Ladbroke Grove during Notting Hill Carnival and the Idris Elba feature really ramped up it's hype as a release.
If you asked anyone in London the UK's 2019 summer jam the answer would be "Boasty obviously".

2. BenjiFlow - Can't Lose
