At the end of last month UK Grime artist Skepta released his latest project: 'Ignorance is Bliss', a 13 track album showcasing the artists latest musical creations.
Having watched the youtube premiers for all the albums visuals and having listened to the album in its entirety, I believe it is safe to say this is one of the best Grime albums to have been released in very a long time.
'Ignorance is Bliss' blew me away. With its refreshing production and captivating lyrics it cannot be compared to anything else out now.
Much like Tyler the Creator's 'IGOR' album it was almost entirely produced by the artist and stands out in a music scene dominated by a safe drill/trap sound.

For me, the album flows beautifully and when I first heard it, it sounded like one song that was constantly morphing as it jumped from track to track, each time evoking a new emotion.
Tracks such as 'No Sleep' provide that experimental, out of the box, grimy production that we hear on albums such as 'Boy in da Corner' and 'Novelist Guy'. In fact, the song very much reminds me of 'Brand New Day' off Dizzee Rascal's 'Boy in da Corner'.
In a scene that was built by emcees who could also produce, it is nice to see Skepta showcase the roots of Grime by self-producing this album.
Apart from a few tracks, Skepta uses 808's sparingly on this record. He instead predominantly uses grimy basses assuring us that this is not an album for the clubs or an album made to appeal to the US market.
As I Have already stated on the Viber & Gang podcast, Skepta along with Novelist reassures me that Grime is not dead as more and more Grime artists are recording trap songs.
This album was a breath of fresh air, so with that being said here are my top 3 tracks of the album: Bullet From a Gun, Love me Not, Pure Water.
