Skepta has just dropped his latest single 'Kiss and Tell' ft. AJ Tracey and after a having put out a solid body of work this year in his Grime album 'Ignorance is Bliss' it is fair to say this latest single is pretty underwhelming.
A generic trap beat can, on occasion, actually turn into a hit but from someone as unique as Skepta with his grimey bass sounds and his 'out there' production this trap single really doesn't showcase the best of Skepta.
The lyrical content is decent and very real, with both Skepta and AJ retaining their original styles, however, the beat is very American and with 'Ignorance is Bliss' being such a uniquely UK sounding grime album it is a shame to see Skepta jump on this rather bland trap instrumental.
One thing that fans can take from the track is its visual which is very good. With an old skool VHS feel to it, amateuresque videography and a night vision filter cropping up throughout the video, it feels more authentic to Skepta than the overall sound of the actual track itself.
Overall the track is pretty generic and for Viber lacks an original sound. Skepta set the bar high for himself but we look forward to his next release.
