It's not often that I use the word cray but it is definitely apt in this instance. EDM duo Magnificence dropped their single 'Control' last month and it is crazy.
The Dutch producer/DJ duo were away for a while but this single is a great comeback and they will undoubtedly be on the Europe summer festival circuit this year.
'Control' begins almost completely filtered with a tonne of reverb and then suddenly...boom. We are thrown into chaos. But it is fantastic. The 909 drum and the gritty gliding saw synth jumping by two octaves every four beats creating a beautiful rise and fall feeling as we hit that fourth beat.
When I listened, I likened the bass to that of DJ Wonder 's - 'What'. It has that same gritty sub-low tone that makes listeners screw their faces.
Magnificence has actually pushed the bass right to the front of the mix. So much so that it is actually in front of the clap, a bold decision that has paid off well as the bass is what drives this track.

At first we do not have much percussion just shakers for three beats to accompany that gritty bass. However, around the forty-eight second mark we have bongos panning from left to right temporarily to lead us into the second drop. Now we have a much more distinct shaker groove.
Halfway through this latest release we are dropped into a bridge of sorts with a robotic voice saying "You can't control me" from hear we experience a very industrial reverbed drum section with the main kick and some light metallic hits. Of course this is the build up to our final stage in our journey.
Overall I would say a very impressive single. Maybe I am biased because I love that gritty sub-low saw synth, but I still believe this is an impressive production and will hopefully be played in clubs across Europe.
