Stefflon Don releases 'Move'

Stefflon Don is arguably one of the hottest female artists in the UK right now and has been killing the game since 2017 when her single 'Hurtin Me' ft. French Montana hit the charts in both the UK and the US. The rappers dancehall inspired fusion tracks were interesting, refreshing and they took her to the top fast, making her a household name.

Since then, the British-Jamaican rapper has gone on to release even more quality music and was even named a XXL 2018 Freshman.

However, having reached some extraordinary heights last year, the rapper has been unusually quiet in 2020, but has now come back with a bang!!

'Move', her latest single is certainly an interesting track to say the least. With a distorted 808 thumping throughout the track, it is certainly more abrasive than a lot of her previous material and undoubtedly verifies her UK roots. The rapper effectively switches between flows throughout the track. The chorus will give the listener yardie vibes, but her verses take us from Kingston to London and are grimey.

This track, like a lot of the rappers music, can't be put in a box and that's what makes Stefflon Don's music that much more intriguing. It is far too abrasive and distorted to be dancehall, but at the same time it is not a 140bpm grime track. The track transcends a genre and not a lot of artists can achieve that in 2020.

The single is also accompanied by a video. The video starts with the rapper partying in a bar, as always, she is flaunting a pretty extravagant outfit. The location then changes to the bar kitchen with the rapper now rocking red braids. Of course, in true Jamaican style, her performance is quite sexually evocative. The location then moves to a table where Don and a group of girls are drinking, dancing and playing Domino's. The video continues to cut between these three locations with the video maintaining that sexually evocative energy.

Neither the song nor the video are too deep or meaningful, but Stefflon Don has never been that kind of artist and we as an audience respect that. She is true to her style and both the song and the video are of a high quality. It is just a shame that it has arrived so late in the year. However the track overall is an above average release and is a nice addition to the artists catalogue of music.
