Wiley Demands an 02 Stormzy Clash!!

Since the start of this new year the Godfather of Grime and Stormzy have been at odds with each other. From Wiley's 'Eediyat Skengman' diss tracks to his crazy twitter tirades, the relationship between Wiley and Stormzy has proven to be undeniably toxic. And in his latest rant Wiley certainly affirms that.

Wiley has been tweeting Stormzy non-stop since Ed Sheeran's 'Take me Back to London (remex)' was released which angered Wiley who saw it as a cultural intrusion. Ever since the pair have been beefing with Stormzy tweeting today "This old crackhead tweets me every single day you are obsessed with me, what an embarrassment". Attached to this tweet was a screenshot of Wiley's age reading "41 years".

Wiley was quick to respond tweeting "Stormzy tried to run before he could walk with the full support of everyone but it all went wrong when he made Wiley Flow". The two exchanged words on Twitter with Stormzy finally suggesting they clash on Rinse FM or BBC Radio 1Xtra. However, the Godfather had different plans demanding that they bring boxing promoter Eddie Hearn on board and set up a pay per view TV clash broadcast from the sold out 02 arena.

However, this did not sit well with fans who question why Wiley will only clash Stormzy for money when Stormzy has suggested they take it back to the roots of Grime. Since Dizzee's 'Money Right' 2018 single which featured Skepta Wiley has managed to burn an incredible amount of bridges in the UK urban music scene. From Skepta to Jammer to Krept and Konan and Stormzy, Wiley seems to have an issue with everybody in and around Grime.

WIley's Twitter antics are not to dissimilar from that of an Azealia Banks and his bitterness is not to far off someone like Nicki Minaj who, like Wiley, as a pioneer is using 'cultural gatekeeping' as a way of disrespecting and slandering other artists within their respective scenes.

It's a very sad occasion for the UK to see these two talents disrespect each other and cause division especially given the traction and attention that grime has been generating of the last few years.

However, here at Viber we are still hopeful that this will not affect the growth or quality of homegrown UK grime music in 2020.
